Over loadable uninterruptible backup power sources (UPSs) ASTIP STRONG for the supply of industrial gates, fire doors and blinds.
UPSs Astip STRONG have been developed to provide backup power supply to devices that are powered by an asynchronous motor.
Devices are often used as a fire protection for buildings.
The design of the UPSs is therefore designed in accordance with the normative requirements for the power supply of electric fire-fighting equipment. Particularly with power supply requirements from two mutually independent UPSs, to operate the EPS and TOTAL STOP signals.
UPSS ASTIP STRONG CAN BE USED IN THESE THREE CASES:
- The backup power supply for the gates in the event of a power grid failure (existing power grid).
- To supply the gates when a fire alarm is triggered.
- To supply the door in the event of an alarm triggering through the integrated rescue system, in case of high CO concentration, ...
This is the same case as when a fire alarm is triggered. Signals for activation and deactivation can be brought from different control systems.
STRUCTURE OF THE ASTIP, DESCRIPTION OF FUNCTIONS
The UPSs design meets the requirements for the power supply of fire-fighting equipment as a power supply from two mutually independent UPSs. This means that the failure of the UPS Astip does not affect the supply of the gates, supplied from a power backup which is from the second power source – the existing grid, and vice versa. This is achieved by a controlled switch between the existing grid and the UPS output as well as the fact that the UPSs are equipped with a self-diagnosis. It is clear from the diagram that the switch is part of the UPS. The control and the power supply of the switch is independent of the UPS power modules and in the event of a UPS failure, the functionality of the switch is not affected.
In normal operation, the devices supplied from an existing power supply grid. It is clear from the diagram that the connection of an existing power grid is brought to the UPS, all the way to the output contacts of the switch. The switch is in the normal mode switched to take the power from the mains.
OVERLOAD OF THE UPSs
This feature guarantees:
- UPSs are able to withstand 8-12 times more current than the rated current. However, more precise is the definition that UPSs are able to withstand a current impact when starting a door motor that is not controlled by a frequency inverter.
- UPS will have enough power to start the engine of the gate also for min. sizing UPS for one cycle, under any current climatic conditions and at the end of the battery life.
- Simple choice of the recommended UPSs.
- Select the power supply according to the particular motor type.
SELF-DIAGNOSED UPS (CONTROLED ELECTRONICS OD13)
monitors UPS. In the event of a failure, the UPS alerts the user to this condition, by a light and sound signal as well as a signal via the bus.
However, the supply from the existing network will not be interrupted by the UPS failure because the switch was switched to an existing power supply grid before the failure and remains in this position tillthe malfunction is resolved.
FUNCTION OF THE UPS DESIGNED FOR THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY FOR THE GATE IN THE EVENT OF BLACKOUT
In the event of a voltage drop in one of the mains phases, or in the event of a failure of an existing power grid, the switch turns into the UPS backup supply. The duration of a supply from the backup source can be selected manually for any number of gate cycles in the event of a power blackout. After restoring the existing electricity grid, the switch switches the power supply back to the mains.
THE UPS FUNCTION INTENDED FOR THE BACKUP SUPPLY OF THE DOORS, WHICH ARE FIRE-FIGHTING DEVICES
In this case, the UPS electronics activates after the EPS activation signal arrives, or the fire button is pressed. The UPS turns off after the TOTAL STOP signal.
THE UPS FUNCTION THAT IS USED TO POWER SUPPLY A DOOR, WHICH MUST BE OPENED IN THE EVENT OF A HIGH CONCENTRATION OF CNG AND CO, OR WHEN THE ALARM IS TRIGGERED BY THE INTEGRATED RESCUE SYSTEM
Signals for activation and deactivation can be brought from a different control system. The UPS function is the same as when a fire alarm is triggered. Typically, this is a door opening. The signal levels are listed in the following paragraph.
Unless otherwise specified in the project, UPSs are equipped with batteries for 10 years as standard. This means that the battery has a minimum capacity of 80 % of its original capacity after 10 years, subject to the following conditions:
- The ambient temperature constantly does not exceed 25 °C or does not fall below 0 °C for a long time.
- The batteries are always serviced (except for times of supply from the power backup source).
- At least once a year, a stress test is carried out by trained staff.
- Unauthorized interference made to UPS are not allowed.
The USV status signalling is indicated by LEDs (revealing the current UPS status). Operation is started by the ON and OFF buttons, using the UPS accidental shutdown function when the system shuts off by holding down the OFF button for about 5 seconds.
The OD 13 control panel is equipped with remote signalling via the LCD and RS232 / USB communication interface. The LCD display shows the current state of the high and low battery bank in volts, the current operating mode (supply from the power backup source, the actual grid, charging, maintenance status, Total-Stop, EPS, ERROR), additionally the status of the 1F or 3F grid and the under voltage of the individual phases. The display is typically used for service purposes.

- To supply several gates at once
- Open the doors one after another
- Open the gates individually depending on the incoming signals
You can select a sequential start or start through the OD13 control logic gateway located in the backup source.
ELECTRICAL PARAMETRES, POWER RANGES OF THE UPSs
UPSs are typically dimensioned for 4 opening cycles. However, the smallest battery capacity for all types of the UPSs is set to 7 minutes of rated gate power. This is due to the designed parameters of the accumulators, which must be able to emit enough energy when starting the motor of the gate, climatic conditions and ageing of the batteries. It is likely that UPS with new batteries will be able to supply gates at the normal temperatures for 4–5 cycles. Smaller accumulator capacity can be chosen for the gates with motors controlled by the frequency inverters.
UPSS OUTPUT VOLTAGE 230 V, 50 HZ
They are designed to power supply a door with less power and less torque. These UPSs also meet conditions for the supply of fire-fighting equipment.
The illustration shows that the UPS has an original design that allows the secure fastening to the wall in the switch box. UPS can be also operated by using the EPS, or TOTAL STOP signals.
All the cover types made to be mount on the wall make it easy to mount by using the lock connectors that are located on the sides of the UPS. Complete construction can be done without interfering of the UPS insides. For the UPSs that do not supply the fire doors, you can connect with a socket and flex cable. Such construction could be carried out by a person who does not have a certificate of a professional competence for the inspection of electrical equipment.
THE POWER OF THE SERIES OF THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY SOURCES WITH THE INPUT VOLTAGE 3× 400 V
All the UPSs are the safety against a power overload.
The price is very low compared to the quality of the delivered UPS. Power sources up to 3 kVA with the mounting system, enable Plug & Play. Higher power sources are made to stand directly on the floor. The maximum power supply is 100 kVA.
FOR INDOORS, OUTDOORS AND ESCAPE ROUTES USAGE
UPSs have a standard type of protection IP40.
We are able to supply UPS for the outdoor environment with IP 65 or EI 15-45. In this case, UPS could be placed in escape routes.
